Privacy Policy

Who we are

Shep is operated by Jon Sheppard. When this policy says "we," "us," or "Shep," that's who it means. Our website is hireshep.com.

What we collect

We collect information in two ways:

• Information you give us. When you fill out a contact form, sign up, or subscribe, you share things like your name, email, business name, and website URL.
• Information collected automatically. With your consent, we use analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site. This includes pages visited, time on site, device type, and general location (country/region level, not street address).

Analytics and cookies

We use the following services, all gated behind our cookie consent banner. Nothing loads until you say it can:

• Google Analytics (GA4) for traffic and usage patterns. Google's privacy policy.
• PostHog for product analytics and understanding how people interact with the site. PostHog's privacy policy.
• Sentry for error tracking (runs without consent as a necessary service) and session replay (requires consent). Session replay records how you interact with the page to help us fix bugs. Sentry's privacy policy.

You can change your cookie preferences at any time using the cookie preferences link in the footer.

How we use your data

• To respond to your inquiries and provide services you requested
• To improve the website and understand how people use it
• To send you updates about your account or services (never spam)
• To detect and fix errors

Who we share data with

We don't sell your data. We share it only with the service providers listed above (Google, PostHog, Sentry) and with Stripe for payment processing. Each of these providers has their own privacy policy governing how they handle data.

Data for customers

If you're a paying customer, we also collect business information you provide during onboarding (business name, website, industry) and billing information processed by Stripe. We use this to deliver the services you're paying for. Customer data is stored in a secure database and is never shared with other customers.

Your rights

You can:

• Access the data we have about you
• Correct any inaccurate information
• Delete your data (we'll remove what we can; some data may be retained for legal or operational reasons)
• Opt out of analytics tracking via the cookie banner or your dashboard settings
• Export your data in a portable format

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as needed to provide services or comply with legal obligations. Analytics data is retained according to each provider's default retention periods. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days.

Security

We use HTTPS everywhere, store data in encrypted databases, and limit access to personal information. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes, we'll update the date at the top and, if you're a customer, let you know via email. Your continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
